Using Employment Records to Prove Income
Pay slips, EPF statements, and EA forms show exactly where your money came from.

Why do employment records matter?
When your bank account is frozen, the authorities or the court will want to know where the money came from. If it came from your job, your employment records are the most direct proof. [f1]
Pay slips, EPF statements and EA forms each confirm the same fact in a different way: you earned this money through lawful work. This evidence is strong because it comes from several independent sources.
Your employer issues the pay slip, the government records your EPF contributions, and LHDN, the tax authority, receives your EA form figures. When all three agree, they show a clear and consistent picture of lawful income.
The evidence preparation guide explains the general process. This page shows how to collect and present employment records for a frozen account case.
What do pay slips show?
Pay slips are the most detailed record of your income. Each one shows your gross salary, deductions for EPF, SOCSO and income tax, and your net take-home pay. The net amount should match the deposit in your bank account.
Collect a pay slip for every month the frozen account covers. If the period spans two years, that is 24 pay slips. Digital pay slips from your company’s HR system are fine; print them and keep both copies.
If your employer uses a payroll platform, you may be able to download all your pay slips at once. Ask HR about access, even if you have left the company.
Why is your EPF statement so useful?
Your EPF (KWSP) statement is one of the strongest pieces of employment evidence. [f2] Each month your employer pays into your EPF account, and a government agency records it, not just you or your employer.
Log in to i-Akaun on the KWSP website to download the statement. It lists each monthly contribution with the date, employer’s name and amount. Because the contribution is a percentage of your salary, it confirms your income level on its own.
EPF records go back to the start of your working life. Contributions from past employers stay on record, so the statement also helps when older income needs to be checked.
If you cannot use i-Akaun, visit any KWSP branch with your MyKad. They can print your statement on the spot.
What does the EA form show?
The EA form (Borang EA) is the yearly statement your employer must give you, showing your total pay for the year. [f3] It covers basic salary, allowances, bonuses, benefits in kind and EPF contributions.
Your EA form matches what your employer reports to LHDN, so the tax authority holds the same figures. That is another independent check on your income. If you filed your tax return using these figures, your tax assessment notice confirms them again.
Ask your employer for EA forms for the relevant years, and keep copies of your tax returns. Together they link your salary to the official tax system.
How do SOCSO records help?
SOCSO (PERKESO) contributions are a third government record of your employment. They do not show your exact salary. But they confirm your employer was paying the required contributions for you during that period.
You can get your SOCSO statement from the PERKESO website or a PERKESO office. It shows each month your employer contributed, which confirms you were working.
SOCSO records help most when other records are incomplete. If a pay slip is missing for one month, the SOCSO record for that month still shows you were employed and earning.
How do you match deposits to your salary?
The heart of your employment evidence is the match between your salary records and your bank deposits. [f1] Make a table that lines up each month’s pay slip with the matching bank deposit.
For each month, note the pay slip date, net salary, deposit date and deposit amount. The deposit should appear on or soon after the pay date on the slip.
Small differences are normal. Some employers split salary into several payments or pay allowances separately. Note each difference and explain it; your lawyer can deal with any gaps when the evidence is submitted.
If a deposit does not match any pay slip, list it separately and show where it came from. A bonus, commission or expense claim should have its own supporting document.
What if your records are incomplete?
You may not have every record. Under AMLA Section 44A, you can apply in writing to the enforcement agency to vary a freeze with documented proof that your money is lawful, so fill any gaps from other sources. [f4]
If pay slips are missing, your EPF statement covers the same months. If one year’s EA form is missing, your tax return for that year has the same figures. If your employer has closed down, the EPF and SOCSO records still exist.
For gaps no document covers, your lawyer can write to the agencies for certified copies. EPF, SOCSO and LHDN hold records on you and can be asked for official statements.
A letter from HR on company letterhead confirming your job, salary and length of service adds support. It ties the monthly records together into one confirmed employment history.
How should you present your evidence?
Put your employment evidence in date order. Start with the employment letter, then the EA forms year by year, then the EPF statement, then your pay slips. Put the table matching salary to bank deposits at the end.
Label every document with its date, type and source. A well-organised file is easier for your lawyer to use and for investigators to check.
A lawyer who handles frozen account cases can tell you what to include and how to present it. Bring all your original documents to the first meeting, and the lawyer can prepare them for the investigator or the court.

What employment documents do I need for a frozen account case?
Gather your pay slips, EPF statement (i-Akaun), SOCSO contribution records, EA form (Borang EA) for each year, employment letter, and bank statements showing your salary coming in. Together they give several independent records of the same income, which makes your evidence stronger.
How do I get my EPF statement?
Log in to i-Akaun on the KWSP website, or visit any KWSP branch with your MyKad. The statement lists every monthly contribution from your employer, with dates and amounts. It is a government record that confirms your job and salary level.
What if I lost some pay slips?
Ask your employer's HR or payroll team for copies. If they cannot help, your EPF statement and EA form together cover the same information from independent sources. Your bank statements also show deposits arriving on your usual paydays.
Can my employer refuse to provide records?
Employers must by law issue the EA form every year and keep payroll records. If your employer will not cooperate, your lawyer can send a formal request letter. You can still get your EPF and SOCSO records straight from the government agencies.
How do I match salary deposits to my bank statements?
Compare the date and amount on each pay slip with the matching bank deposit. Check the pay date on each slip. Make a table with the pay slip date, net salary and the matching bank transaction. Small differences can come from rounding or deductions.
What if my salary was paid in cash?
Cash pay is harder to prove, but your EPF contributions still show you were employed and roughly what you earned. If your employer paid EPF for you, that confirms you were on a salary. Your EA form and employment contract also support your income.
