Picture a retiree or homemaker in Seremban who gets a call from someone claiming to be a delivery company or a loan officer. To “verify” or “release” something, the caller asks for card details or the one-time password (OTP).

Soon money leaves the account, and later the account is flagged as a mule account. The owner never chose to help anyone move money, yet is now part of an investigation.

What the law looks at

The offences are federal, so being in Seremban does not change them. The caller who used your account can face Penal Code section 424A, which covers controlling someone else’s account without lawful authority ^[f1].

Police may also ask whether you gave control of your own account to someone else, which is section 424B ^[f2]. What you knew and why you acted matter to your defence.

How a Seremban case is handled

Where a mule account case is questioned and heard in Seremban

The Seremban Court Complex (Kompleks Mahkamah Seremban) houses the High Court of Seremban, so the state’s High Court cases are heard in town. ^[f6]
