Getting Banking Access Back After a Mule Case
Your mule-account case is over, but getting normal banking back can take its own steps.

Why your bank may not reopen everything when the case ends
You may expect normal banking to return as soon as a mule-account case is over. In practice, getting full access back is a separate process.
The freeze may lift, but the bank still manages its own risk. It may keep some limits, ask for documents, or move slowly before it trusts the account again.
To see how long freezes last, read the freeze duration guide.
A lifted freeze is not a cleared flag
These are two different things. A freeze stops money moving in one account during an investigation. A flag is a record that the account or phone number was reported as suspect.
Anyone can check the PDRM Semak Mule portal to see if an account or phone number is flagged, and more than 190,000 accounts had been flagged as of 2024 to 2025 reporting. [f1] A flag can last longer than the freeze and still affect how a bank sees you.
So even after your money can move again, check whether your details still show as flagged.
What happens when an AMLA freeze lapses
An AMLA seizure order lapses 18 months after it is made if you are not charged and no prosecution starts. [f4]
When it lapses, the legal order holding your money ends. That does not force the bank to reopen everything at once.
Before you press the bank, confirm that the freeze has really lapsed or been lifted. Do not assume it.
Why it can feel slow
Police detected 46,048 mule accounts in 2023 and 50,295 in 2024 [f5].
A bank may be careful with any account linked to a mule case, so things can feel slow. Clear documents and written follow-up give the bank less reason to delay.
Where to complain if your bank will not restore access
If you think the bank is being unfair, start with its own complaint process. Keep every message and letter in writing.
If that stalls, Bank Negara Malaysia supervises banks and runs BNMLINK on 1-300-88-5465 as an official complaints channel. [f2] Once the bank’s internal process is finished, the Financial Markets Ombudsman Service (FMOS) can take the complaint further. [f3]
Use these channels in that order and keep records at each step.
How a lawyer can help you get banking back
A lawyer can confirm whether the freeze has truly ended and whether any flag remains. That way you act on facts, not guesses.
They can help you present clear documents to the bank. If the bank is unreasonable, they can take the complaint through the proper channels for you. See what a lawyer can do for more on this role.
If your case is over but the bank still blocks you, you can send us the details on WhatsApp and ask for a lawyer to look at it.
How long it can take
Getting banking back may not happen in one phone call. Even after a freeze lifts, the bank may still check your documents and finish its own review.
Do not assume everything switches back at once. If you cannot manage day to day while the account is still limited, ask a lawyer about your options early.
Take it one step at a time: confirm the freeze status, check for a flag, send your documents, follow up in writing, and escalate only if a channel stalls.

Does my account unfreeze automatically when the case ends?
Not always. An AMLA seizure order lapses 18 months after it is made if you are not charged and no prosecution starts, but the bank still runs its own risk checks. It can keep some limits or ask you for documents first.
What is the difference between a freeze and a Semak Mule flag?
A freeze stops money moving in one account during an investigation. A Semak Mule flag is a public record that an account or phone number was reported as suspect. The flag can stay after the freeze ends, so check whether your details still show up.
How do I complain if my bank will not restore access?
Use the bank's own complaint process first and keep everything in writing. If that fails, contact Bank Negara Malaysia through BNMLINK. After the bank's internal process is finished, you can take it to the Financial Markets Ombudsman Service (FMOS).
Can a lawyer help me get banking back?
Yes. A lawyer can check whether the freeze has really ended and whether a flag remains. They can help you prepare documents for the bank and take the complaint further if the bank is unreasonable.
