What Semak Mule is

Semak Mule is a public checking tool run by PDRM. You type in a bank account number or phone number, and it tells you whether it has been reported and flagged as a mule [f1].

Anyone can use it. It lets ordinary people check a recipient before sending money to a stranger.

Check before you pay

Before paying an unknown seller, an online investment, or a job that asks for a deposit, check the account number and phone number on the portal.

If the result is flagged, stop and do not pay [f1]. A clean result is reassuring but does not prove the deal is safe.

What a flag means

A flag shows that the account or number has been linked to scam reports. It is a warning sign, not a finding of guilt.

More than 190,000 accounts were flagged as mules across 2024 and 2025, according to PDRM reports [f2]. Some belong to people who were tricked into receiving money, which is why a flag is a warning and not a conviction.

If your own account is flagged

Finding your own account or number flagged is frightening, but stay steady. It means reports exist and police may investigate. No court has decided anything.

Your account could be frozen, and CCID, the police commercial crime unit, may look into it [f3]. Keep your records and think carefully before you rush to explain.

Collect your transaction history and any chats that show how you got involved. A lawyer or legal aid officer will work from these if the case goes further.

What a clean result does not tell you

A clean result does not prove the other person is honest. A newly opened mule account may not have been reported yet, so it can look clean and still be risky [f1].

Treat a clean check as one sign among several. For a large or unusual transfer, check the person and the reason in other ways, and keep your receipts.

If you have already lost money

If you have already lost money to a scam, call the National Scam Response Centre on 997 to start urgent action [f4]. The portal shows you the risk; recovering money needs a report.

If you caught a flagged recipient in time, you avoided a loss. Keep a screenshot of the result and report the account so others are warned.

If a freeze has followed a flag

If the flag is on your own account and a freeze has followed, treat it as a legal matter. Keep your records, and get advice before you give a detailed statement. Send us a WhatsApp message if you want to be referred to a lawyer.

What does it mean if an account shows up as flagged?

A flag means the account or number has been reported as linked to a scam [f1]. It is a warning, not a court finding. Do not pay, but remember a flag alone does not prove the holder is guilty.

My own account is flagged. Am I automatically a criminal?

No, a flag records reports and suspicion, not a conviction. Some flagged holders were tricked into receiving scam money. Police may still investigate and freeze your account, so keep your records and get advice instead of panicking [f3].

Can I remove my number from Semak Mule myself?

No. The portal is only a checking tool. A flag comes from police reports, so clearing it depends on the outcome of the investigation. Focus on explaining your side properly to the investigating officer, with a lawyer if the matter is serious [f3].

Should I check Semak Mule before every transfer?

Check before paying strangers, unknown sellers, or online investment or job offers. If the account or number is flagged, do not pay [f1]. A clean result helps but proves nothing, so stay careful with large transfers.
