The time between the freeze and a decision
Your case is not decided on the day your account is frozen. Between the freeze and any decision there is a review period, and how you use it matters.
Anywhere in Pahang, this is when a lawyer can help most. It is your chance to give your side before anyone decides whether to charge.
The freeze laws are federal, so the same review period applies in Kuantan, Temerloh and Bentong. What differs is which police office deals with you.
What starts a Pahang freeze
The review period starts with the freeze. A police officer can freeze an account under Criminal Procedure Code section 116D at once, with no court order, if they suspect a link to crime. [f1]
Or, under AMLA section 50(1), the Public Prosecutor can order a freeze on money suspected to come from crime. [f2] A scam victim’s report can start either one, but a report does not prove guilt.
Where you may be asked to attend
The Pahang police contingent (IPK) is in Kuantan. District police headquarters (IPD) are listed at Kuantan, Bentong, Bera, Cameron Highlands, Jerantut, Lipis, Maran, Pekan, Raub, Rompin and Temerloh. [f6]
Which office handles your case depends on the officer who contacts you. Ask for their name, the case number and the place and time, and tell a lawyer before you go.
Giving your side during the review
You can act during the review. Through a lawyer, you can explain what happened and show the evidence, such as where the money came from.
The Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID/JSJK) at Bukit Aman investigates mule account cases nationally. [f3] A calm written response with papers is more useful than silence or an unprepared statement. The investigation and court process page explains each stage.
Getting money released for essentials
The review can take time, and bills do not wait. If an enforcement agency froze the account under AMLA section 44, section 44A lets you apply to release money for reasonable living or business costs. [f4]
Send the application to the agency in writing. A more senior officer there reviews it against your papers. A lawyer can base the request on what you really pay each month in Pahang, and the account holder rights page covers the limits.
The time limit on the freeze
The freeze does not last for ever. A freeze by an enforcement agency under section 44 lasts up to 90 days unless a charge is brought. An order under section 50 lapses after 18 months if no one is charged (section 52A). [f5]
A police freeze under section 116D lapses after 18 months if no one is prosecuted. A lawyer can track the right date for your freeze. The freeze duration guide explains each time limit.
Legal help near you in Pahang
If cost is a worry, the Legal Aid Department (Jabatan Bantuan Guaman) lists offices for Pahang and Raub. [f7] The Malaysian Bar lists a Pahang Bar Committee and legal aid centres in Kuantan and Temerloh. [f8]
A referral through WhatsApp needs no trip to either. The Pahang page covers the courts and the rest of the state.

What is the review period in a Pahang freeze?
It is the time between the freeze and a decision to charge someone or drop the case. Investigators look at the account, and you can give your side. A clear response backed by papers is then in front of investigators before any decision.
Where would I be asked to give my side in Pahang?
The Pahang police contingent (IPK) is in Kuantan, and district headquarters (IPD) are listed in eleven places, from Bentong to Rompin. [f6] The officer's call or notice says where to attend. A lawyer can go over what to bring first.
How quickly should I act after a Pahang freeze?
Quickly. A police freeze under CPC section 116D can happen at once, with no court order, so the review may already be running before you understand it. [f1] The sooner a lawyer looks at the case, the more of that time you can use.
Can I get money released during the review?
Sometimes. If an enforcement agency froze the account under AMLA section 44, section 44A lets you apply in writing to that agency to release money for reasonable living or business costs. A more senior officer decides, based on your papers. [f4]
Is there a time limit on the freeze itself?
Yes. A freeze by an enforcement agency under section 44 lasts up to 90 days unless a charge is brought. An order under section 50 lapses after 18 months if no one is charged (section 52A), and a police freeze under section 116D lapses after 18 months if no one is prosecuted. [f5]
