What it means

PDRM stands for Polis Diraja Malaysia, the Royal Malaysia Police. It keeps appearing in frozen-account matters because these cases are treated as crimes, not banking disputes. When you see PDRM, read it as the police.

A frozen account tied to a mule-account suspicion is a criminal investigation. That is why the police, and not only the bank, are involved.

What is the police freeze power?

Since the 2024 amendments, the police can act quickly. Under CPC section 116D, a police officer of Sergeant rank or above can freeze an account immediately, without a court order, on suspicion that it is linked to unlawful activity. [f1]

Your bank then carries out the order, which is why some freezes arrive suddenly and without notice. The person named in the order can apply to the Sessions Court to vary or revoke it. The order lapses after 18 months if nobody is prosecuted over the money.

Which unit investigates?

Not every part of PDRM handles these cases. The Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID / JSJK) at Bukit Aman is the PDRM unit that investigates mule-account cases. [f2]

If you are asked to give a statement or attend, it may be this unit. Our page on CCID explains more.

Reporting and hotlines

Speed matters when a scam is fresh. The National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) hotline 997 is used to report scams and trigger urgent freezes. [f3]

If you are a victim and not a suspect, this line can help. Either way, read what to do now to steady your next steps. If a police freeze has hit your account, a lawyer can prepare the application to the Sessions Court for you.
