MLM Participant Account Frozen After Transfers?
Your direct selling transfers triggered a bank flag, and your funds are now locked.

Why do MLM accounts get flagged?
Direct selling is a lawful business in Malaysia when the company holds a licence from KPDNHEP. [f1] More than 800 companies were licensed in 2024. [f5]
The trouble is how the income looks to a bank’s system. An MLM member can get many small transfers from many people: downline members paying for products, shared commissions and bonuses. [f6] To software, this can look like money being passed through an account to hide where it came from.
Banks must report transfers that do not fit what they expect of a customer. [f2] If you opened the account as a salaried worker and it suddenly gets many small transfers, the system can flag it. The bank may not call you first; it can file the report and a freeze can follow.
How does the freeze work?
After the report, the authorities may issue a freeze order under AMLA Section 44. [f3] You lose access to the whole balance. Transfers, bill payments and ATM withdrawals all stop.
A freeze is not a finding of guilt. It holds the money while the investigation checks where it came from. Your money is still there, just locked.
You may find out only when a payment fails, because the bank may not warn you first. Your first steps after finding out matter.
How do you prove your business is real?
Your strongest proof is your link to a licensed direct selling company. Gather your distributor agreement, member ID and commission statements. They explain why you receive so many transfers.
Product records matter too. Invoices, delivery receipts and order histories show that the money coming in matches real sales. If your company has a back-office system, export your transaction history from it.
Our source-of-funds guide shows how to arrange these papers so investigators can follow them.
How do downline records help?
Your network can help show a real business. A list of your downline, their contact details and what they bought shows the transfers come from real people buying real products.
Written statements from team members confirming their purchases make your case stronger. WhatsApp or Telegram group chats about orders and deliveries also help.
Put it all in a timeline. Show when each person joined, what they bought and how each payment matches a transfer in your bank statement.
Can you get money released before the case ends?
Yes, you do not have to wait for the investigation to end. [f4] Under AMLA Section 44A, you can ask the enforcement agency in writing to release part of the money for essential living costs.
For an AMLA s44 freeze, you apply in writing to the agency that issued it, and a more senior officer decides. No court is involved. The officer weighs your needs against the investigation.
A lawyer can prepare the application with your monthly costs: rent, bills, loan repayments and family expenses. Having your papers ready helps. Read more about your rights as an account holder.
What should you do right now?
Gather your direct selling papers. Distributor agreement, commission statements, product invoices and your company’s KPDNHEP licence number. Back them all up digitally.
Download your bank statements. If you still have online access, export the last 12 months. Match each incoming transfer to a product sale or commission.
Contact your upline and the company. Ask for a letter confirming you are an active distributor and showing your dealings with the company. Such a letter can support your file.
See a lawyer before giving a police statement. You must cooperate, but a lawyer’s help can help make sure your statement describes your business accurately. Your first statement shapes the investigation.

Why was my account frozen if MLM is legal in Malaysia?
MLM is legal, but the transfer pattern can look suspicious to a bank. Many small deposits from many people look like money mule activity. The bank reports it, and the account can be frozen while the authorities check, even though your business is lawful.
Can I use my direct selling company licence to unfreeze my account?
Your company's KPDNHEP licence supports your case. Put it together with your distributor agreement, commission statements and product purchase records. A lawyer can present this to show the transfers are genuine business income.
How long will the freeze last?
It depends on the order. A freeze by an enforcement agency under AMLA Section 44 lasts up to 90 days. Holding the money longer needs a further order, which under Section 52A lapses if no one is charged within 18 months. Prepare your source-of-funds papers early; a lawyer can help you apply in writing to the agency to vary the freeze.
Can I open a new account while this one is frozen?
Opening an account is a separate matter from the freeze, and you should not use any other account to move money out of the frozen one. A bank may ask questions if your name appears in alerts. A lawyer can advise what to do in your situation.
Will my downline members also be investigated?
It depends on how wide the investigation is. If the authorities think the transfers involve crime, they may look at the accounts that sent you money. Records of your downline and their purchases help make the picture clear.
