Mule Account Lawyer in Kota Bharu

Being told your account is a mule account is frightening. If you are in Kota Bharu or anywhere in Kelantan, take these steps one at a time, in order.

Step 1: stop replying to whoever recruited you

Stop replying to the person who asked for your account, card or online banking login. Do not act on any further request from them.

Do not move money, close the account or agree to “settle it” because they say so. Anything you do now can look like you were helping the scheme.

Step 2: save the evidence before it disappears

Save every chat, job advert, transfer slip and bank SMS that shows how your account came to be used. Screenshot whole conversations, with phone numbers, names and dates, and keep them somewhere safe.

Kelantan investigators form their view from records like these. The same records can show how your account came to be used.

Step 3: check the Semak Mule portal

PDRM runs the Semak Mule portal, a public check that shows whether an account or phone number has been reported. More than 190,000 accounts had been flagged by 2024 to 2025 reporting ^[f4].

Checking your own details early tells you where you stand before you speak to anyone official.

Step 4: find out which section you face

Mule offences are federal, so they are the same in Kelantan as anywhere. But which section applies changes the penalty.

Possessing or controlling someone else’s account without authority is section 424A: a fine of RM5,000 to RM50,000 or 6 months to 5 years in jail ^[f1]. Giving control of your own account to someone else is section 424B ^[f2]. Transactions through an account without a lawful purpose fall under section 424C, the heaviest ^[f3].

Step 5: know where the Kelantan courts and police sit

The High Court of Kota Bharu is a listed High Court location. ^[f6] Mule offences are tried in the Magistrates’ Court or Sessions Court, and the prosecution decides which, so your first date may not be at the High Court at all.

Police matters run through IPK Kelantan on Jalan Bayam or a district office such as IPD Kota Bahru. ^[f7] Read any summons or call carefully, because it names the office and the date you must attend.

Knowing this can make the first date less of a shock. It also gives you time to prepare documents and a clear timeline.

Step 6: get a lawyer, and legal aid if money is tight

A lawyer can attend each hearing with you, manage the file and explain your side to the investigating officers. If cost worries you, the Legal Aid Department (Jabatan Bantuan Guaman) helps people whose income qualifies. ^[f5] It has a Kelantan office and a Gua Musang office. ^[f8]

Expect the case to take time

A mule case may take more than one hearing. A Kelantan court may set a few short “mention” dates before anything is decided.

Use that time to keep gathering records and keep your lawyer informed. Missing a court date without a reason can count against you, so note every date and tell your lawyer early if work or travel makes it hard to attend.
