Account Frozen as a Food Delivery Rider?
Your cash deposits and delivery payouts looked unusual to the bank, and your account was frozen.

Why delivery riders get flagged
Delivery work gives your bank account an unusual look. You collect cash-on-delivery (COD) payments, receive daily or weekly payouts from foodpanda or Grab Food, and deposit cash at ATMs or branches through the week. [f1]
Bank systems are built to flag patterns that look like money laundering. Frequent cash deposits, many small transfers and a high number of transactions are all warning signs. [f2] A busy rider’s account can trip several of them without doing anything wrong.
An automated system may not tell a rider depositing cash from COD orders apart from someone feeding scam money into an account. Your honest work can leave a similar trail.
What a frozen account means for a rider
When your account is frozen, everything stops. No withdrawals, deposits, transfers or debit card payments. For a rider who lives on daily cash, that is a threat to your income, not just a hassle.
Platform payouts sent to the frozen account may bounce back, and pending earnings may be stuck. Rent, fuel and food for your family are all at risk.
Knowing which kind of freeze you face helps you see which steps apply.
Bank freeze or police freeze?
Two things can freeze your account. A bank freeze happens when the bank’s own monitoring flags your pattern, and the bank may also report it as suspicious. [f5] A police freeze happens when the authorities freeze the account as part of an investigation.
Ask your bank which one it is. If it is the bank’s own freeze, it may lift it once you show proof of your income. If it is a police freeze, you need a lawyer to deal with the investigating officer.
If you believe your account was wrongly frozen, you can complain to BNM. [f3] A lawyer can help you do this properly.
Your legal position
If the freeze is part of a police investigation, there is a risk of a charge under Section 424C of the Penal Code. [f4] It covers using your account for transactions without a lawful purpose. The penalty is 3 to 10 years’ jail, or a fine of RM10,000 to RM150,000, or both. [f4]
What you knew, and why you made the deposits, matter to your defence. Platform earnings and delivery records that can be checked support a rider’s account. What matters is presenting that evidence clearly.
Building your evidence file
Start collecting now. The better your records, the easier it is for a lawyer to explain your income.
Platform earnings records. Download your full order history and earnings statements from foodpanda, Grab Food or whichever platform you use. They show what you earned and when.
Cash deposit records. Keep ATM slips and note which deposits came from which shifts. Without slips, your bank statement and platform records can still show the link.
Delivery logs. Notes of your deliveries, shift hours or fuel costs show you are a working rider. Photos of your delivery bag, screenshots of your active rider status and customer ratings help too.
Registration papers. Your rider registration, motorcycle ownership and any rider insurance show you are a real, active rider.
Put everything in order and keep it ready. Good evidence preparation helps the bank or authority check your story.
What to do now
Do not ignore the freeze. Ask your bank for the reason, and write down the details of every call.
Download your platform data today. Earnings reports, order history and payout records may be harder to get later.
Keep earning if you can. If you have another bank account in your own name, ask the platform to pay your earnings there. Do not open a new account without asking a lawyer first.
Speak to a lawyer. A lawyer who handles frozen account cases can present your delivery records to the bank or police and work on lifting the freeze.

Why would a food delivery rider's account get flagged?
Riders collect cash-on-delivery (COD) payments, receive platform payouts and deposit cash often at ATMs. Banks watch for frequent small cash deposits, and that pattern overlaps with mule account activity. An automated system may not be able to tell a rider's earnings from suspicious money.
I only deposit my own delivery earnings. Is that suspicious?
Not in itself. It is the pattern that gets flagged, not where the money came from. Several cash deposits a day, especially at ATMs, fit what automated systems look for, even when each amount is small.
Can foodpanda or Grab Food help me prove my income?
Yes. Your platform records every order, payout and completed delivery. Download your earnings history and order records. Together with your bank statements, they link your work to your deposits.
My account is frozen and I cannot deposit today's cash. What now?
Do not try to deposit into the frozen account. If you have another bank account, use it for now. If not, ask a lawyer about applying to release part of the frozen money for living costs, and keep a daily note of your cash earnings.
Will I lose the money already in my frozen account?
A freeze is not the same as losing the money. It stays in the account but you cannot use it until the freeze is lifted. That can happen when the bank's review or the investigation is finished, and a lawyer can write to the bank or authority about it.
Can I be charged for depositing my delivery earnings?
Depositing money you earned is not a crime. But if your account is part of a wider investigation, the freeze can continue while the authorities check. A lawyer who puts your delivery records to the investigating officer or the bank can help sort it out.
