What is CCRIS?

CCRIS stands for the Central Credit Reference Information System. It is a credit reporting database run by Bank Negara Malaysia, the central bank that supervises financial institutions. [f1]

Banks and other lenders report your loans and repayments to it. When you apply for new credit, a lender can pull your CCRIS record to see how you handled past borrowing. It is a record of facts, not an opinion.

Is CCRIS a credit score?

CCRIS is easy to confuse with a credit score, but they are different. CCRIS is the underlying data held by the central bank. A credit score is one number that a rating agency calculates from information like it.

A lender may look at both. You can check your own CCRIS record through Bank Negara’s channels. For general questions, call BNMLINK on 1-300-88-5465. [f2]

Does CCRIS show a frozen account?

No. If you came here because your account was frozen, know that a freeze and a credit record are separate. Under the CPC (Amendment) Act 2024 section 116D, a police officer of Sergeant rank or above may freeze an account without a court order on suspicion of unlawful activity. [f3]

That freeze is about a suspected offence, not your loan history, so it does not appear in CCRIS the way a missed instalment would. If your money is locked and you do not know why, a lawyer can explain the freeze and your rights.

What does CCRIS stand for?

CCRIS stands for the Central Credit Reference Information System. Bank Negara Malaysia, the central bank, keeps it. It collects loan and repayment data that banks report, so a lender can check how a borrower has handled credit before approving a new loan.

Is CCRIS the same as a credit score?

No. CCRIS is the raw record of your loans and repayments. A credit score is a number that a rating agency works out from data like this. Think of CCRIS as the full report and the score as a summary of it.

Does a frozen account show up in CCRIS?

No, a freeze and a credit record are separate things. Under the 2024 amendment, police can freeze an account without a court order, while CCRIS tracks borrowing, not investigations. If your account is frozen, focus on understanding the freeze itself, and speak to a lawyer.
