What is a chronology?

A chronology is a dated list of what happened, in the order it happened. It is simply a timeline: each relevant event with its date, written in your own words. It turns confusion into a clear sequence.

In a frozen-account or mule-account matter, it is a useful thing to prepare. It gives you and your lawyer the same factual starting point.

How does a chronology help?

Memory fades and details matter. A timeline written while events are fresh keeps dates, names and amounts accurate. That counts when the CCID at Bukit Aman investigates, because exact facts matter there. [f1]

It also helps your lawyer work faster. They can see the shape of your case, spot gaps and tell you which documents to collect. Our evidence preparation guide goes further.

What should I include?

Write each event with its date and a short factual note. Useful entries are when you opened the account, any request from someone to use it, when you first learned of the freeze, contact from the bank or police, and any statement you gave.

Say who was involved and refer to your documents. Be honest and do not guess. If you are unsure of a date, say so instead of inventing one.

Can a chronology ease the worry?

A chronology steadies you as well as your lawyer. Instead of a blur of anxiety, you have facts you can point to.

The stakes are real. Mule accounts are a large enforcement area: police detected 46,048 mule accounts in 2023 and 50,295 in 2024. [f3] Section 424A alone carries a fine of RM5,000 to RM50,000, or 6 months to 5 years in jail, or both. [f4]

Article 5(3) of the Federal Constitution gives you the right to a lawyer of your choice, and a clear chronology helps them help you. [f2]

What exactly is a chronology?

It is a dated list of what happened, in order, in your own words. In a frozen-account case it might show when you opened the account, when you noticed the freeze, when police contacted you, and any relevant messages or transactions. It turns a confusing situation into a clear sequence.

Why should I prepare a chronology?

Memory fades and details matter. A timeline written while events are fresh keeps dates, names and amounts accurate. It helps your lawyer understand the case quickly and see which documents you still need. It also gives you facts to point to instead of a blur of worry.

What should I include in my chronology?

Give each event a date and a short note: opening the account, anyone asking to use it, the day you learned of the freeze, contact from the bank or police, and any statement you gave. Say who was involved and refer to documents. Stick to facts, and do not guess.
