What is DuitNow?

DuitNow is Malaysia’s instant transfer service. You can send money using a registered phone number, IC number, business registration number or QR code, instead of typing a full bank account number. The transfer moves between banks almost at once.

That speed is why DuitNow is used for everyday payments. It also means a transfer reaches the other account very quickly and leaves a clear digital record.

Why does DuitNow appear in frozen-account cases?

DuitNow transactions are fast and traceable, so they become part of the money trail investigators follow. When a scam victim reports a loss, the money can be traced to the next account through the DuitNow record.

If your account received such a transfer, the trail can point investigators to you. A victim can report through the NSRC hotline 997, which can trigger an urgent freeze. [f2] Your account or phone number may then appear on the PDRM Semak Mule portal. [f1] None of this, by itself, decides whether you did anything wrong.

What does a traced transfer show, and what does it not show?

A DuitNow record shows that money moved from one account to another at a certain time. It does not show what you knew or meant to do. That matters, because the offence under Penal Code section 424C, transactions through an account without a lawful purpose, depends on the purpose and conduct behind the transaction, not just on money moving. [f3]

Keep the transaction records, any chat messages, and notes on how the transfer came about. If a DuitNow transfer led to a freeze, a lawyer can explain what the trail means for your case and what to do next.

What is DuitNow?

DuitNow is a Malaysian instant transfer service. You send money using a registered phone number, IC number or QR code instead of a full bank account number. Money moves between banks within moments, which is handy for daily payments.

Why does DuitNow come up in frozen-account cases?

DuitNow transfers are fast and traceable, so investigators can follow the money from a scam victim to the next account. If your account received a transfer that a victim reported, that trail can lead to a freeze on your account, even if you did not know the money was tainted.

Does receiving a DuitNow transfer prove I did something wrong?

No. A record that money reached your account is not proof of a crime by itself. What matters is what you knew and what you did. A transfer can arrive without your knowledge or consent. Keep the transaction record and any messages to explain your side.
