What is digital banking?

Digital banking is banking through apps and websites instead of a branch counter. It covers the online services of traditional banks and also digital banks, which are licensed banks that run entirely online with no branches.

You open the account, move money and check your balance from a phone or computer. It is convenient, but in law it is still an ordinary bank account.

Do the same freeze rules apply to digital banks?

Yes. Some people think an online-only account sits outside the usual rules. It does not. A digital bank account can be frozen in the same ways as any other.

Under AMLA, the Public Prosecutor can order a financial institution not to deal with money suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activity. [f1] Under the CPC amendment, a police officer of Sergeant rank or above can block transactions at once on suspicion of a link to unlawful activity. [f2] Neither power depends on the bank having a branch.

Why do speed and traceability matter?

Digital banking moves money fast and records every step. That helps in daily life. It also means investigators can follow funds quickly from one account to the next, and a transfer that reaches your account leaves a clear trail.

If your account is frozen, ask the bank for the reason in writing and keep every record. For a banking complaint you can call BNMLINK on 1-300-88-5465. [f3] If a criminal investigation is involved, a lawyer can explain the legal basis and your next steps.

Are digital bank accounts treated differently in a freeze?

No. A digital bank account is a bank account, so the same freeze powers apply. Under AMLA, the Public Prosecutor can order a bank not to deal with the money, and under the CPC amendment a police officer of Sergeant rank or above can block transactions at once. Being online does not put money outside these rules.

My digital bank account was frozen. Who do I contact?

Start with the bank's own support and ask for the reason in writing. For a banking complaint you can call BNMLINK on 1-300-88-5465. If the freeze is part of a criminal investigation, a lawyer can find out the legal basis and advise you on what to do.
