Who is hit hardest in Kajang?
Kajang is a commuter town with factory workers, shift staff and families who budget from one payday to the next. For some, one salary account pays the rent, school costs and the daily drive to work.
When that account is frozen, the whole month stops at once. Sometimes it is an ordinary worker, not a scammer, who has to explain a transfer they never expected.
How long can a freeze last?
The freeze rules are federal, so they are the same in Kajang as anywhere in Malaysia. An AMLA order from the Public Prosecutor lapses if the person is not charged within 18 months [f2].
Under AMLA, the Public Prosecutor can order the freeze when an account is suspected of holding money from crime [f1]. Under the 2024 amendments, a police officer of Sergeant rank or above can also freeze an account without a court order [f3].
That police freeze lapses after 18 months if no charge is brought. See the freeze duration guide for the full timeline.
Can you get money for daily costs?
A freeze blocks the money for now. In some cases you can apply to release money for reasonable living costs while the freeze runs. A lawyer can prepare that application with your payslips and bills.
It does not lift the freeze, but it can ease the pressure while the case is checked. To see how freezes work, read understanding account freezes.
The Kajang court and police district
Kajang has a Sessions and Magistrates court of its own, so a first hearing close to home is possible. The same directory lists High Courts at Shah Alam and Klang, but it does not say which one takes Kajang matters. [f6] The charge sheet will show the court.
The mule-account offences are in Penal Code sections 424A to 424C [f4]. The police directory lists Kajang as a district, under the Selangor contingent headquarters in Shah Alam. [f7] If your notice names Kajang, that is the district office handling it, and a lawyer can contact the officer for you.
For legal aid, the Legal Aid Department lists a Selangor office and the Bar Council has a Legal Aid Centre in Shah Alam. [f8] [f9] You can message us first and ask for a referral to an independent law firm, so there is no need to travel.
What to do first
Do not move any money that is left, and do not ignore letters or calls. Collect your payslips, bank statements and the freeze notice.
You can check whether an account or phone number is flagged on the PDRM Semak Mule portal [f5]. Get advice before you give any statement, or send us a short message about what happened.

How long can my Kajang account stay frozen?
An order from the Public Prosecutor under AMLA lapses if the person is not charged within 18 months. A police freeze under section 116D lapses after 18 months if no charge is brought, and you can apply to the Sessions Court to change or lift it sooner. Even so, months are a long time when a household lives from payday to payday, so act early.
Can I release money for rent and daily costs?
Sometimes. For an AMLA freeze by an enforcement agency, you can apply in writing to that agency to release money for reasonable living or business costs. For a police freeze under section 116D, you apply to the Sessions Court. A lawyer can prepare the application with your payslips and bills; it does not end the freeze, but it can ease the pressure.
Does Kajang have its own court?
It has a Sessions and Magistrates court. The directory also lists High Courts at Shah Alam and Klang but does not say which takes Kajang cases. [f6] The prosecution decides where a charge is heard, so read the charge sheet.
How does a working person end up flagged?
A salary account that also receives an odd transfer from a stranger can be caught when police trace scam money. Receiving that money is not by itself a mule-account offence. What you did with the account, what you knew and why you did it matter. But the account stays frozen while it is checked, so keep clear records of your normal pay.
