Student Loan Blocked by a Frozen Account
Your PTPTN disbursement is blocked because your bank account has been frozen.

How a freeze blocks your study loan
PTPTN pays your study loan straight into your bank account each semester. [f1] If that account is frozen, the money cannot reach you, and PTPTN may get a failed payment notice. Your fees go unpaid, your living allowance stops, and your studies are at risk.
The bank may restrict an account after it spots unusual activity. [f2] That might be a large transfer from someone you know, small transfers between friends that the system flagged, or a deposit from a stranger later linked to fraud. Whatever the cause, you lose access to your money.
Why students get flagged
Transfers between friends. Students split bills, lend money and get paid for things sold online. When many such transfers involve different people, the bank’s system may flag the pattern.
Someone else used your account. A friend or acquaintance may have asked to receive a payment through your account. If that payment is linked to a scam, your account is pulled into the case.

Unusual deposits. A sudden large deposit that does not match your normal use can trigger a review. Even if it is a family gift or a scholarship, the bank may freeze first and ask questions later.
Your PTPTN options during a freeze
You do not have to wait for the freeze to end to sort out PTPTN. [f5] Tell PTPTN your bank account cannot be used for now, and ask to have your loan paid into another account in your name.
If your bank has restricted all your accounts, ask your lawyer and PTPTN what to do before you open a new one. Any account must be in your name only. Keep the PTPTN reference number and all letters and emails.
If your fees are overdue because of the freeze, go to your university’s finance office straight away. Show them the freeze is the reason for the delay and ask for more time.
Asking for money for essential costs
The law gives a way to ask for frozen money to be released for essential needs. [f4] If your account was frozen under AMLA section 44, you can make a written application to the agency under section 44A. A more senior officer decides, with no court involved.
Your application is stronger with proof that you are a student, your PTPTN loan agreement and proof of essential costs such as food, rent and fees. A lawyer can prepare it for you.
A freeze also has an outer limit. Under AMLA section 52A, it lapses if no one is charged within 18 months. [f3]
What to do now
Contact PTPTN now. Explain that your account is frozen and ask to have your loan paid elsewhere. Keep a record of every call and email.
Speak to your university. Go to the registrar and finance office, explain what has happened, and ask for more time to pay fees.
Gather your evidence. Collect your PTPTN loan agreement, bank statements and any messages about the transactions that led to the freeze. Follow the steps in our first hour actions guide.
Talk to a lawyer. A lawyer who handles frozen account cases can apply for release of funds, deal with the bank and protect your position. Legal aid may be available if you cannot pay for a private lawyer.
Keep your account to yourself. From now on, never let anyone use your account for their transactions, however trustworthy they seem.
Protecting your studies
A frozen account is stressful, but it does not have to end your studies. Acting quickly, keeping records and getting legal advice give you a better position to deal with the freeze.
What you do now matters.

Can PTPTN send my loan to a different account?
Yes. PTPTN lets you change the bank account your loan is paid into, at a PTPTN office or through its online portal. A lawyer can tell you whether this is a sensible move while your old account is under investigation.
Will the freeze affect my PTPTN loan status?
The freeze is on your bank account, not your PTPTN loan, which stays active. But if payments keep bouncing back, PTPTN may flag your file. Contact them early to explain.
My account was frozen because a friend sent me money. What now?
Getting a transfer from someone under investigation can lead to your account being frozen. Save every message that shows why the money was sent. A lawyer can help you present your case that the transfer was innocent and had nothing to do with crime.
Can I be expelled for having a frozen account?
A frozen account on its own is not a finding of wrongdoing. If the freeze leads to criminal charges, your university may look at disciplinary action. Getting legal help early protects both your case and your place at university.
How do I pay tuition fees if my account is frozen?
Ask your university's finance office what other ways you can pay. Ask whether it accepts cash, a payment from a family member on your behalf, or a payment plan. Tell the registrar so they can note it on your file and avoid late penalties.
