P2P Trading
Two people exchange currency or crypto directly and settle by bank transfer, with no middleman holding the money.

What it means
P2P trading, short for peer-to-peer trading, is when two people swap currency or cryptocurrency directly and pay by bank transfer. A platform may match a buyer with a seller, but the payment goes straight between their two bank accounts.
That direct payment is the key point. Nobody holds the money in the middle, so what you receive comes from the other person’s own account, or from someone they tell to pay you.
Why can an honest trade still cause a freeze?
The risk is that the money reaching your account came from a scam, without your knowledge. A victim may have been told to pay a certain account, and that account was yours because of the trade. The money can then be traced to you.
The victim can report through the NSRC hotline 997, which can trigger an urgent freeze. [f1] Your account or phone number may then appear on the PDRM Semak Mule portal. [f3] This can happen even when your side of the trade looked completely ordinary.
What matters, and what should you keep?
Whether an offence exists depends on what you did and why, not on the word “trading”.
Making transactions through an account without a lawful purpose is an offence under Penal Code section 424C, with 3 to 10 years in jail, or a fine of RM10,000 to RM150,000, or both. [f2]
Keep everything: the platform record, the chat with the other trader, the agreed rate, screenshots of the deal and the transfer receipts. These can help show that your side was a genuine exchange. If a trade led to a freeze, a lawyer can review the money trail and your records and advise your next step.

What is P2P trading?
P2P, or peer-to-peer, trading is when two people swap currency or cryptocurrency directly and pay by bank transfer. A platform may match buyers and sellers, but the money goes straight between the two people's bank accounts. No middleman holds it.
Why can a P2P trade freeze my account?
The payment lands directly in your account, so you may receive money that someone else got through a scam. If that scam victim reports the loss, investigators can trace the money to you. Your account can then be frozen even though your side of the trade looked ordinary.
Does a P2P trade make me a mule?
Not automatically. Whether an offence exists depends on what you did and why, not on the label "trade". A genuine trader who was deceived about where the money came from is in a different position from someone who moves money for no lawful purpose. Clear records can help show your side was a genuine trade.
