Wedding Gift Transfers Flagged Your Account?
Duit kahwin (wedding money gifts) from your guests triggered an unusual-activity flag on your account.

Why can duit kahwin trigger an unusual-activity flag?
Around your wedding, dozens of guests sent you money within a day or two. Many of them had never sent you money before. To an automated monitoring system, that burst of small, varied transfers can look like a mule account collecting scattered payments. [f1]
Under AMLA 2001, an account suspected of holding money from crime can be frozen. Since the 2024 amendments, police can also freeze an account at once without a court order. [f2] The problem may be only a monitoring flag, not a full investigation, but it still has to be cleared properly.
The things that set off the flag (many transfers, many senders, all at once) are exactly what a wedding produces. Showing the bank that it was a wedding is the first step to clearing the flag.
Is it a bank hold or a real freeze?
Ask your bank whether this is an internal review hold or a freeze order from a law enforcement agency. A wedding flag may start as a routine bank check set off by the transfer pattern, not by any accusation.
If it is a formal freeze, the bank may be able to tell you which agency issued it and give you a reference number. This matters because a bank hold and a legal freeze are cleared in different ways.
What wedding records should you gather?
Your invitation and event details are your first and strongest proof. Keep the invitation card or e-invite, the date, the venue booking confirmation and any vendor receipts.
If guests paid through a DuitNow QR code or an e-wallet link you shared, that tool’s own history can label the payments clearly.
Photos, videos and social media posts from the day help confirm the dates. A guest list, even an informal one, matched against the names on the incoming transfers makes your explanation much stronger.
How do you check if your account was formally flagged?
You can check through PDRM’s Semak Mule portal whether your account carries a formal mule account flag. [f3] This tells you whether you face a routine bank review or something more serious.
If the portal shows no formal flag, the hold is most likely an internal bank review. You can start by asking your branch or the bank’s customer service.
Can you use the money if a formal freeze applies?
In the less common case of a real AMLA freeze, Section 44A lets you make a written application to the agency to release money for reasonable living expenses. These can include the costs of starting married life. [f4]
The freeze also has a limit. Under Section 52A it lapses if the person is not charged within 18 months. [f5]
While you wait, list the urgent costs that depend on this money, such as a deposit on a new home or a booked honeymoon. A lawyer can use that list to support the application.
How can a lawyer help clear it quickly?
A lawyer who handles account freeze cases can ask your bank for the exact reason for the hold and present your wedding records clearly. If a formal freeze applies, the lawyer can also file the Section 44A application for essential expenses. [f4]
A wedding leaves clear records: one event, one date, one guest list.

Why would wedding gift transfers trigger a freeze?
Many small transfers from many different people in a day or two look, to a monitoring system, like a mule account collecting scattered payments. [f1] The system reads the pattern of the money, not the occasion. It cannot tell a wedding from a warning sign.
Is this the bank's own system or a real police freeze?
It could be either. The bank may place a temporary hold while it reviews the account, or a real AMLA or police freeze can follow if one guest's transfer is later linked to something else. [f2] Ask your bank which one you have, because each is cleared differently.
How do we prove the money was really duit kahwin?
Keep the wedding invitation, the date and venue booking, photos or videos from the day, and any DuitNow QR code or link you set up for the event. A guest list matched against the transfer amounts and dates gives a clear picture.
Could one guest's transfer cause a problem for the whole account?
It can. If one guest's money is later linked to an unrelated case, a freeze can cover the whole account, not just that transfer. Checking your account status early helps you find out. [f3]
Can we use the money for our honeymoon or new home?
If a formal freeze is in place, Section 44A lets you make a written application to the agency to release money for reasonable living expenses. Explain in the application what you need the money for. [f4] A lawyer can prepare it for you.
How long does a wedding case usually take to clear?
No one can promise a time. A bank review depends on the bank and how quickly you send your records. For a formal AMLA freeze, an agency order under Section 44 ends after 90 days without a charge, and a seizure or Section 50 order lapses after 18 months without a charge. [f5]
